Rest & Reconnect: Healing Through Food
A Food, Gut Health & Nervous System Retreat in Ontario
May 27 to 30, 2027
Healing through food begins in rest and digest.
You have probably tried the meal plan, the nutrition app and the fresh start on Monday, and watched each one fade by the middle of the week. That happens because a body living in fight or flight digests poorly and reaches for quick fuel, however good your intentions are. Healing through food begins with your nervous system.
The Rest & Reconnect Retreat Method is built on a principle I have relied on for twenty five years as a psychotherapist and medical herbalist: your body can only receive nourishment when it feels safe enough to rest and digest. Over four days at The SEED Lodge in the Grey Highlands of Ontario, we first settle your nervous system through breathwork, Kundalini Yoga, psychotherapy and a complete digital detox. Once your body shifts into rest, we cook together, learn what your gut needs, and practise eating slowly and with intention, returning again and again to one question: what is truly nourishing for you? You go home understanding the patterns behind how you eat, with simple meals and practices that fit a busy life.
Digestion is one of the first systems to suffer under chronic stress, and it is also one of the clearest pathways back to calm.
Slow down, sit down, and let yourself be fed.
The Rest & Reconnect Retreat Series
If your days look like most of my clients' days, lunch happens at your desk or gets skipped entirely, dinner is whatever is fastest at nine o'clock at night, and sugar and caffeine carry you through the afternoon. Over time, bloating, heartburn, late night cravings and an unsettled stomach start to feel like ordinary life. A settled nervous system and a healthy gut support each other, and this healing through food retreat works with both.
Every retreat in the Rest & Reconnect series follows the same method, because rest is the foundation that everything else depends on.
Permission to rest. For four days, rest is the work. Many of us have spent years treating rest as something we earn, and this retreat gives you full permission to stop proving and producing.
Breathwork for calm. Each day includes specific breathing exercises designed to bring your nervous system into a state of calm, so your body can move out of high alert and into repair.
Kundalini Yoga. Carefully selected Kundalini Yoga practices stimulate circulation, digestion and elimination while regulating the nervous system. They are accessible and grounding, and they awaken vitality at a pace your body can welcome.
Psychotherapy and group awareness. Through psychotherapy practices and group psychotherapy, you will begin to recognize the patterns in your nervous system that keep your body from resting. Seeing those patterns clearly, in the company of others who share them, is what allows the reset to last once you are home.
Deeply nourishing food. On this retreat, food is both the nourishment and the teaching. Every meal is fresh, wholesome and prepared with care, and many of them we prepare together.
Complete digital detox. Phones, laptops and notifications are set aside for the full four days. For many guests, this is the first time in years their mind has been quiet enough to hear what their body needs.
The practice of doing nothing. You are warmly encouraged to do nothing at all. Sitting by the stream, napping in the afternoon and watching the light change across the land are some of the most restorative things you can offer your nervous system.
“My intention for these retreats has always been the same. This is not an escape from your life. It is a way of returning to it, with more of yourself intact. You already have your own answers inside you. Sometimes you just need the right conditions in which to hear them.”

This Retreat Is for You If:
What makes this healing through food retreat unique:
Cooking together. Practical cooking sessions run throughout the retreat. You will learn to prepare simple, whole food meals that support digestion and steady energy, the kind you can realistically make after a long, busy day.
Nutrition for a stressed body. Clear, grounded teachings explain how stress affects digestion, blood sugar, cravings and gut health, and which foods help your body stay calm, focused and energized. You will learn how to feed your gut so it can support you in return.
Mindful and intentional eating. Meals become a practice. You will slow down, notice the signals of hunger and fullness, and observe your own eating habits with curiosity and kindness. Many guests discover that how they eat matters as much as what is on the plate.
Your relationship with food and being fed. Through reflection, group conversation and art making, we explore the stories we carry about food, the moments we eat to soothe ourselves, and what it means to receive care. This is where lasting change in your eating begins.
Herbal support for digestion. Drawing on my practice as a medical herbalist, I will introduce you to gentle digestive herbs, bitters and teas that you can safely bring home to support your gut and your nervous system.
Food from the land. Late May brings the first wild greens and spring herbs to The SEED Lodge, and when the season allows we harvest some of them together for our meals and medicines, reconnecting with the source of what feeds us.
Continue your practice at home. Throughout the retreat you will learn techniques and practices that you can integrate into your life, from simple breathing exercises before meals to recipes, herbal teas and ways of eating that keep your nervous system and your digestion steady during busy weeks.

When the body is under chronic stress, the nervous system stays in fight or flight and directs energy away from digestion and repair. This can lead to bloating, heartburn, irregular appetite, cravings for sugar and caffeine, and difficulty sensing hunger and fullness. When the nervous system shifts into its rest and digest state, the body can break down food, absorb nutrients and repair more effectively, which is why this retreat calms the nervous system before focusing on food.
